In a break from tradition, Kim Kardashian released her 2019 Christmas card today, opting to include only her husband Kanye West and their four children—North, 6; Saint, 4; Chicago, 1; and 7-month-old Psalm in his holiday card debut. For now, it’s the first time without a joint Kardashian-Jenner-West Christmas photo.
In addition to the West’s youngest joining the festivities for the first time, the card is distinguished by its atypical aesthetic. Instead of Christmas sweaters or customary winter wear, the family of six is clad in gray sweats and socks, sitting on the white steps of their Calabasas home. “The West Family Christmas Card 2019,” Kardashian captioned the snap.
In the past, there have been several different artistic directions for the Kardashian Christmas cards—as well as yearly buzz about who is excluded from the group shot. Last year brought the all-white, allegedly “last minute” card featuring all of the Kar-Jenner women (sans Kendall) and their children. 2017 was the year the family (minus Kylie, who was secretly pregnant with Stormi at the time) wore white tees and denim while posing next to a Christmas tree.
Last year, Kim and Kanye also released a separate family photo for the holidays, perhaps signaling they would strike out on their own for this year’s edition.
The Kardashian card is just the latest indication that the holidays are truly on their way. In the last few weeks, members of the family, including Khloe, Kendall, and Kim have been showing off their yuletide decorations—daring us to debate whose decor is naughty or nice.
