Kim Kardashian has been under the spotlight for much of her life. She’s used to cameras following her around while she’s with her children and her husband. She might not know what royal life is in the UK, but she’s part of what has been called “the royal family of America.”
Kardashian has been through enough challenges of the public life that she can empathize with some of what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are dealing with right now. While on Australia’s The Sunday Project this weekend, Kardashian said she understands what Harry and Meghan might be feeling as they try to keep their family safe from tabloid attention.
“I don’t think anyone can really understand what that’s like except for them,” she said of Meghan and Harry. “But I think as I’m older and as I have kids, and what I would want for them is just the safest place . . . I can definitely empathize with their need for having a secure, safe place and taking time for themselves and having privacy when they need it.”
During their ITV documentary, Harry & Meghan: An African Journey in October, Meghan spoke about how she was “naive” about British tabloids before she got publicly involved with Harry.
“It’s hard,” Meghan said, via Entertainment Tonight. “I don’t think anybody could understand that, but in all fairness, I had no idea—which probably sounds difficult to understand here—but when I first met my now-husband, my friends were really happy because I was so happy, but my British friends said to me, ‘I’m sure he’s great, but you shouldn’t do it, because the British tabloids will destroy your life.’ And I very naively…we’re American, we don’t have that there, ‘What are you talking about? That doesn’t make any sense. I’m not in tabloids!’ I didn’t get it. So yeah, it’s been complicated.”
