Keanu Reeves has this perception as a laid back, carefree moviestar who’s “just happy to be here.” But don’t let that fool you. Beneath that charming exterior lies a man who is fiercely devoted to his craft, especially the physical aspect of it. There’s been numerous videos made about how hard Reeves trains for roles like John Wick and Neo. It’s important that things look realistic which is why Reeves performs a lot of his own stunts and spends months training. At fifty-five years old that means that said training requires even more devotion and hard work as Father Time marches on. And based on the two monumental roles Keanu Reeves is about to reprise, doubling down probably isn’t going to cut it. Quadruple the effort is probably closer to the ballpark.
Next year, Keanu Reeves begins shooting for two film franchises that made him famous. Reeves will return as the Chosen One, Neo for a fourth MATRIX film and as everyone’s favorite Baba Yaga for JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4. That means guns. Lots of guns. And training. Lots of training. Not one to wait on the New Year, Keanu Reeves has officially begun training for both films as evidenced by a new Instagram post. The post comes courtesy of Taran Tactical, a group that among other things, specializes in combat training for feature films. Check it out:
I have to admit the image is slightly underwhelming. I was really hoping for some images or video of Keanu Reeves doing a back flip, catching a machine gun behind his back, and then killing some dudes Magic Johnson no-look-pass style, but it was not to be. Honestly, audiences are about to get two delicious Delmonico steaks in 2021 with JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4 and THE MATRIX 4. Guess you have to save some room for the sizzle.
Currently both films are scheduled for a May 21, 2021 release date. However, I highly anticipate one of those films will be pushed, most likely JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 4. Neither studio wants to be competing over box office receipts in this situation. But man what a double feature that would be!
