After stalking his way into Beck’s life, becoming her over-protective boyfriend, and killing her ex-boyfriend, best friend, and ultimately her in the name of love(?), Joe Goldberg has officially left his past behind to start a new life in a new city—or so he thought.
“It’s hard to have a fresh start when the past is on your mind,” Joe (Penn Badgley) says in the season 2 trailer for You, released today. And he’s not referring to the now-dead Beck (Elizabeth Lail). Candace (Ambyr Childers), Joe’s ex-girlfriend who was believed to be dead, is back to handle some “unfinished business,” prompting Joe to run to his least favorite place, Los Angeles. It’s the glossy land where you’ll find kale salad-obsessed social media fanatics around every corner, which spells trouble for the Mr. Mystery who has no social presence. But you have to play the game to win, right? The prize is a lovely local named Love Quinn (Victoria Pedretti). In true Joe fashion, the trailer shows Joe stalking Love and becoming her friend before their relationship blossoms into something more serious. Sound familiar?
Elsewhere in the trailer, Candace issues a warning to someone, presumably Love, saying, “If he loves you, that’s the most dangerous thing,” as a clip of Joe standing behind a prison door appears. Then, we see a Candace vs. Joe face-off, a police car pulling up to a building, a very concerned Love making a phone call, and Joe returning to the place that started it all: his NYC bookstore.
What have you done now, Joe?
