File in all of you Purple Parrots, Silver Snakes, Blue Barracudas and … Oh, wait a minute. Wrong show.
Disney has announced that an exciting new game show set in a galaxy far, far away is coming exclusively to Disney+. Hosted by Jar Jar Binks actor Ahmed Best, STAR WARS: JEDI TEMPLE CHALLENGE will test young contestants’ abilities in the core Jedi principles of strength, knowledge, and bravery as they face thrilling and fun obstacles in an attempt to achieve the rank of Jedi Knight! Featuring light saber battles, intense trips through hyperspace, and tasks that will find contestants balancing both the Dark and Light sides of the Force, STAR WARS: JEDI TEMPLE CHALLENGE promises to transport fans and participants into the action of the franchise like never before.
Joining Best on hosting duties will be “a hilarious humanoid droid companion” voiced by Mary Holland (VEEP, UPRIGHT CITIZENS BRIAGDE THEATER).
“This is definitely a kids game show like no other,” says Lucasfilm’s senior director of Online Content & Programming, Mickey Capoferri, via StarWars.com. “The various challenges will test a Padawan’s connection to the Force in three locations — a forest planet, on board a Jedi star cruiser, and inside a Jedi temple — immersing them and the audience in a fun, humorous, and exciting competition.”
“Star Wars: Jedi Temple Challenge brings together the best of Star Wars — competitive spirit, harrowing obstacles and a hero’s triumph over challenges — in a totally new format for the franchise,” said Dan Silver, vice president, Originals — Unscripted Content, Disney+. “A game show set in the Star Wars galaxy is a perfect fit for Disney+.”
Allow me to rephrase my opening statement. File in all of you Purple Padawans, Silver Siths, Blue Bounty Hunters and … Well, you get the idea. Yeah, this show totally sounds like Nickelodeon’s action-adventure game show LEGENDS OF THE HIDDEN TEMPLE (1993-1996) but with a Star Wars twist. That being said, I do believe that my body is ready for some good old fashioned game show shenanigans, especially if the challenges will all revolve around Star Wars. What do you think the prizes will be? Credits? Star Wars merch? A walk-on part in whatever the next live-action Star Wars series turns out to be? Your very own Baby Yoda? Whatever the bounty, I just hope that Best and Holland’s banter isn’t too cringe, and that all involved have a blast while testing their Star Wars skills to the fullest.
STAR WARS: JEDI TEMPLE CHALLENGE will arrive exclusively on Disney+ sometime in 2020.
