Gabrielle Union and Julianne Hough were ousted from America’s Got Talent last week, Variety reported. The publication said the change stemmed from a comment that Jay Leno made in the presence of judges, including Hough and Union (new hires for season 14) while he was a guest judge on the show.
Variety reported the following, via four people who were present at the taping: “While taping, Leno made a crack about a painting on display in a hallway of Simon Cowell, the show’s executive producer and judge, surrounded by his dogs. Leno joked that the pets looked like something one would find ‘on the menu at a Korean restaurant.'”
Union allegedly urged producers to alert human resources of the incident, but the issue reportedly never went that far up the ladder. In a tweet on Wednesday night, Union responded to the news that she would be leaving the show. She thanked fans for their kind words and support.
Union’s husband, professional basketball player Dwayne Wade, also came to the defense of his wife on Twitter. He was perhaps a little more explicit about his direct feelings on the situation than Union .
Union stuck with a tone of thankfulness, which fit in with this week’s holiday. Stand by for more Twitter commentary on the matter; it surely isn’t over.
