Birds of Prey TV Trailer Has Harley Quinn’s Gang on a Rampage

Warner Bros. has revealed a new teaser for Birds of Prey. Or, for those who prefer the full title, Birds of Prey (And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). In any case, the studio decided to showcase some footage from the upcoming DC Comics adaptation at the Game Awards recently, offering us a chance to see Margot Robbie back in action as Harley Quinn.

Before the teaser aired, Margot Robbie appeared as Harley Quinn in a pre-taped bit to warm up the crowd, which was a bit cringy, as such things often are. But it does provide us with a solid look at one of Harley’s new looks in the movie, which consists of a short pink top, shorts and golden overalls. This is a far cry from the version of the character we were introduced to in Suicide Squad, that much is certain.

As for the teaser itself, it starts out with Harley explaining how to be taken seriously, which then provides a nice excuse to showcase several big bits of action from the movie. We see Harley walking away from an explosion, dudes getting beat up in alleyways and Huntress getting worked up into a rage. The video ends with a shot of all of the main ladies at the center of the story walking together, looking ready for business. In terms of both tone and look, this has a very different feel than anything we’ve seen in the DCEU up to this point. The whole thing is set to the tune of Mr. Sandman by the Chordettes, which certainly adds something to the mix.

The cast includes Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane, Fargo) as Huntress, Jurnee Smollett-Bell (True Blood) as Black Canary, Rosie Perez (Fearless, Pitch Perfect 2) as Renee Montoya, Chris Messina (Argo, Sharp Objects) as Victor Zsasz and Ewan McGregor (Doctor Sleep, Trainspotting) as Roman Sionis, aka Black Mask. Newcomer Ella Jay Basco also stars as Cassandra Cain, marking her feature debut. It’s worth noting that, in the world of DC Comics, Cassandra Cain is one of the characters that goes on to become Batgirl, but word is she’s not intended to appear in this movie.

Birds of Prey is billed a “is a twisted tale,” and one that’s being told by Harley herself, as only she can. When Gotham’s most nefariously narcissistic villain, Roman Sionis, and his zealous right-hand, Zsasz, set their sights on a young girl named Cass, the city is turned upside down as they search for her. Harley, Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya’s paths collide, and the unlikely foursome has no choice but to team up to take him down.

Cathy Yan (Dead Pigs) is in the director’s chair, working from a script by Christina Hodson (Bumblebee). The movie was recently named the most anticipated of 2020, coming in above the likes of Black Widow and Wonder Woman 1984, which is no small thing. Birds of Prey is set to hit theaters on February 7, 2020, from Warner Bros. Be sure to check out the new teaser for yourself.
